 2008 VW EOS Actively engaged in expanding its already ample model line, the 2008 Volkswagen Eos fills a narrow gap between the Golf and the Passat. The Eos seems designed mostly around its retractable hardtop, with highly visible lines where parts of the roof meet. The technology in the roof is interesting from a mechanical viewpoint: Composed of five pieces, it stows itself away in about 25 seconds. The Eos offers some other interesting options, such as navigation, cornering headlights, and a 600-watt stereo system.  2008 VW Passat Adaptive cruise control is new on top-line versions of these sedans and wagons. Both body styles come in base, 2.0T, and 3.6 versions. Base and 2.0T Passats have a turbocharged 200-hp 4-cyl engine and front-wheel drive. The 3.6s have a 280-hp V6 and a choice of front-wheel drive or VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on 4-cyl models. A 6-speed automatic is optional for them, standard on 3.6s. All Passats ABS, traction/antiskid control, front side airbags and curtain side airbags. Rear side airbags are available. A navigation system, steering-linked bi-xenon headlamps, and leather upholstery are available. Wood interior trim and Sport packages with firmer suspension and other features are 2.0T- and 3.6-model options. Adaptive cruise control is available on 3.6 models. The 2008 VW GTI is a three-door hatchback, equipped with monochrome paint, big 18-inch wheels and tires, blacked-out trim, larger brakes, and suspension upgrades. Inside, sport-bolstered seating grips front occupants in turns, and the driver faces a meaty flat-bottomed steering wheel that would be right at home in a racing car. Silver trim pieces lighten the gray interior décor, and there metal alloy pedals for your feet. Side-impact, side-curtain, and whiplash-reducing head restraints help to minimize injury in an accident, and standard stability control works to keep a wreck from occurring in the first place.
 The 2007 Volkswagen Fahrenheit GLI is a special edition Jetta GLI with Imola Yellow paint. Only 1,200 numbered units were created for the US market. Similar to the Fahrenheit GTI, Fahrenheit GLI introduces a splashy color to the GLI lineup. The GLI special edition offers the same additions to the powerful model as the Fahrenheit GTI, but with an exclusive Fahrenheit yellow exterior and yellow trim and stitching in the interior. The manual transmission model is priced at $27,880 and the automatic at $28,955.  |
